A 14-year-old boy was found dead just days after being wrongly accused of stealing the cremated remains of a dead baby during a break-in, an inquest has heard.

Tragic Discovery

The young boy's parents found his body in his room at his Flintshire home on 19 November 2021.

Untrue Accusations Begin

The investigation learned how his mother received a communication on November 8th, 2021 via online platforms, from a individual inquiring if her son was her child. The communication added: "Inform him thanks for breaking into my apartment."

In a statement presented to the court, the mother said the woman had been in the news, claiming her infant's ashes had been stolen in a burglary - a claim which was untrue.

Police Investigation

An official inquiry from authorities later concluded the alleged break-in complainant had "provided false information" and "it now appears that the items was never stolen in the beginning".

News coverage about the alleged taken remains attracted social media responses, and although Kai was not named in the messages, his parent said individuals "knew it was him".

The "social media content were really upsetting", she said.

Emotional Health Effect

She explained that her son had been identified with moderate attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, and as part of that condition, other individuals' views really mattered to him.

"This must have hurt him deeply," she said, "especially when this was not true".

Kai was arrested at home, but no evidence was found. He was taken to a police station and later freed under investigation.

Police said they would be in touch, the hearing learned, but had not contacted the family by the time of his passing.

Withdrawal and Worry

His parent said her son "became isolated" after the detention and "would keep asking me whether I had received anything from the police", because his condition meant sometimes "a minute could feel like days".

When she spoke to him about the alleged burglary, she said her child told her he had gone into the residence because the woman who lived there had said he could utilize the bathroom anytime he needed, but refuted removing anything.

Digital Bullying

In a combined testimony between her and her spouse, Mrs Lloyd said her son was being harassed online after the allegations.

The proceedings learned that a young adult urged the teenager to kill himself.

She had no worries on the night before he passed away, describing how she had heard him "chuckling and teasing".

She portrayed him as a "compassionate, loving" young man, and said her "relatives is totally devastated".

He had been "clearly hiding his worries", she stated, adding that he could not stand to have anybody "have negative thoughts of him".

Educational Response

The hearing heard from educational personnel at the local High School.

On November 8th, she "overheard some boys talking that the student had been detained and that was the initial I learned".

"He informed me... he'd done nothing wrong," she added.

After the discussion, the educator said she rang the family's parents' landline and provided a voicemail saying she had spoken to the student about the allegations.

The court heard his family said they never got that message.

Formal Conclusion

Lead coroner informed the inquest he would wait for reports regarding what improvements had been made to handling individuals with the condition, before deciding whether he should make a prevention of future fatalities report.

Providing a narrative finding, he said: "Approximately November 8th, 2021, unsupported accusations were made against Kai Benjamin Lloyd, a young child.

"Probably untruths were subsequently embellished and exaggerated through the platform of online networks.

"On 11 November, he was interviewed by the police and following his interview he was released while inquiries continued."

The official concluded: "There is no evidence that the actions or failures of any agency caused or contributed to his death and although it was the outcome of a personal action it is not possible to discern his purpose."
